Every Biorank score is built on the same transparent framework. Here is exactly how we evaluate, score, and rank every supplement product in our database.
A single number from 0-100 representing overall quality
The Biorank Score is a weighted composite of five sub-scores, minus any applicable Hype Penalty. It is designed to be a single, reliable number that reflects how well a product delivers on its claims, based on published evidence.
// Score calculation
Biorank Score = (
Evidence × 0.30 +
Formulation × 0.20 +
Value × 0.15 +
Safety × 0.15 +
Transparency × 0.10
) - Hype Penalty (up to -10 pts)
The strength and quality of published clinical research supporting the product's key ingredients. We evaluate study design (RCTs weighted highest), sample sizes, replication across labs, meta-analyses, and whether the studied doses match the product's actual doses.
Assessment of adverse effects, drug interactions, contraindications, and long-term safety data. Products with higher stimulant loads, novel compounds, or limited safety data receive lower scores.
Cost-effectiveness analysis comparing the product's price per effective serving against competitors and the cost of equivalent individual ingredients.
How well the product is formulated based on current evidence. This includes dose accuracy, bioavailability of chosen forms, absence of unnecessary fillers, and whether the formula makes scientific sense.
How honestly the brand communicates what is in the product and how it was tested. Full label disclosure, third-party certifications, and honest marketing all contribute.
The Hype Penalty is unique to Biorank. It is a deduction (0-25 points) applied to products where marketing spend and claims significantly outpace the available evidence. This is not opinion -- it is a structured assessment of the gap between what a brand claims and what the research supports.
Biorank scores are derived exclusively from publicly available, peer-reviewed sources. We do not accept data from supplement manufacturers.
Primary source for clinical trial data
Systematic reviews and meta-analyses
Cross-reference for ingredient evidence grades
Third-party certification verification
Product testing and purity data
Safety alerts and adverse event reports
Scores are reviewed and updated on a rolling basis as new research is published. Significant new studies (major RCTs, meta-analyses) trigger immediate re-evaluation. All score changes are logged with an explanation of what changed and why. We do not retroactively alter historical scores -- we publish updates alongside the original assessment for full transparency.
